The Sound of Architecture: Joseph Bertolozzi’s Tower Music

Composer Joseph Bertolozzi harvests the Eiffel Tower’s sounds with microphones placed on its surfaces to record a work entitled Tower Music or“Musique de la Tour,” using only the natural sounds of the Tower itself.

Launched during the 400th anniversary celebrations in 2009 of Henry Hudson’s voyage up the Hudson River, Bertolozzi created Bridge Music by recording the sounds of the bridge’s surfaces (guard rails, girders, etc.) with various mallets and using those sounds to compose new works.
